The last months before we left La Jolla, we had an Allen's hummingbird nest by the window of the dining room. We watched expectantly as she sat patiently in the nest. Then we saw the small beaks popping up. By the time we left the house, there were two happy teenagers sitting in the nest, getting fed in a pretty dramatic way.
