The first time I saw this towhee was during a run from the Hilton Hotel in La Jolla, by the golf. It was during the recruitment visit to Sanford Burham - when I met Craig Venter, and the rest is history. During the years in La Jolla, the modest towhee was a faithful companion of all walks.
