Ibis eremita
First seen:
Morocco
1971
On that year, there was cholera in Morocco - my father being who he was, did not see much of a problem in swimming in a river. There, I saw some big birds in the other bank - sei sumerged, I approached those and saw what I decided was an Ibis Eremita (Norther bald ivis). Since then, they almost went extinct, only to be recovered with substantial conservation efforts. I the 2024 Morocco trip, we first try to see the new colony on Vejer de la Frontera - just to see them just flying away. Then we tried in Souss Massa, just to see glossy ibis, but not bald ibis. Then, many kilometers north, in Imsouane (a surf place), Anen, Adri and I went for a walk along the cliffs, and a group of several individuals just flew straight to us.....and the rest is in the photos.
